A heartbreaking love scam has rocked Ghana after a shoeshine boy, who disguised himself as a soldier, was arrested for deceiving a nurse and several other women.
According to report, the suspect, identified as Frank Anaab, operated around Burma Camp, where he often posed in military uniforms to win the trust and affection of unsuspecting women.
One of his victims, Esther Onsonyameye, a young nurse, said she fell for Frank after seeing his photos in uniform on social media. Driven by her lifelong dream of marrying a soldier, she believed she had finally met her ideal man.
“I bought him provisions, mosquito nets, bedsheets—everything to make him comfortable,” Esther recounted painfully. “I never knew he was only a shoeshiner pretending to be a soldier.”
The pair dated for nearly a year, during which Frank would often leave at night claiming he was on duty. His consistency and confidence convinced Esther that he was truly serving in the Ghana Armed Forces.
However, the truth came crashing down after Esther proudly shared photos of her “soldier” boyfriend online. Within hours, multiple women reached out, claiming they were also romantically involved with the same man.
Together, the women confronted Frank — and it was soon revealed that he was no soldier at all. He failed to identify his supposed military unit and later confessed to being a shoeshiner who worked near Burma Camp.
Further investigations uncovered that Frank had also been posing as a military recruiter, extorting money from people with fake promises of helping them secure jobs in the army.
The imposter has since been handed over to authorities for further interrogation and prosecution.
Reflecting on her ordeal, Esther said her heartbreak serves as a painful lesson in misplaced trust and blind love.
“Maybe I was too genuine,” she said quietly. “I just wanted to love someone I thought was disciplined and honest.”
