The Defence Headquarters has lauded the sustained dedication, discipline, and professionalism of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN), as troops recorded significant operational successes across the country’s major theatres in the past week.
Speaking during a routine briefing, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Kangye commended personnel in the field, in the air, and at sea for their unwavering courage and commitment to national and regional stability.
“Over the past weeks, we have recorded remarkable successes across various operational theatres. These achievements reflect not only the strength of our strategic planning but also the bravery of our men and women in uniform,” he said.
He added that despite lingering security challenges in some areas, the progress made so far serves as a strong motivation to remain focused, vigilant, and mission-ready.
Troops Record Major Breakthroughs in the North East
In the North East, troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), maintained aggressive pressure on Boko Haram, ISWAP, and JAS terrorists, denying them freedom of action.
Between 8 and 16 October 2025, troops conducted coordinated land and air operations in Konduga, Magumeri, Gubio, Nganzai, Monguno, Kaga, and Mobbar LGAs of Borno State, as well as Mubi South and Yunusari LGAs of Adamawa and Yobe States.
During the encounters, several terrorists were neutralized while 16 collaborators, informants, and sympathizers were arrested. Troops also rescued seven kidnapped victims and recovered arms, ammunition, vehicles, and ₦5.14 million in cash. Terrorist camps in multiple locations were destroyed.
North West: Troops Neutralize Terrorists, Arrest Gunrunners and Drug Cartels
In the North West theatre, troops of Operation HADARIN DAJI (OPHD) sustained operational tempo across Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, Kaduna, and Niger States, killing several terrorists and rescuing six kidnapped victims.
Between 8 and 15 October, operations in Tangaza, Illela, Isa, Gudu, Wurno, Goronyo, Anka, Maru, and Shinkafi LGAs yielded the arrest of 14 terrorists, recovery of weapons, livestock, and vehicles.
Additionally, between 8 and 10 October, troops apprehended one suspected gunrunner and two drug cartel members in Kaduna and Zamfara States, recovering 1,307 live ammunition, motorcycles, mobile phones, narcotics, and ₦227,000.
Operation WHIRL STROKE: Criminal Hideouts Dismantled in Benue, Taraba, and FCT
Troops under Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS) also achieved notable results during operations conducted from 8–14 October in Taraba, Benue, Nasarawa, Kogi States, and the FCT.
During the raids, 12 suspects were arrested, while 17 kidnapped victims were rescued. Troops recovered arms, vehicles, and livestock from the criminals.
Troops Foil Oil Theft Worth ₦98.7 Million in Niger Delta
In the South-South, troops of Operation DELTA SAFE (OPDS) thwarted large-scale oil theft valued at over ₦98.7 million.
The operations led to the discovery and destruction of 11 illegal refining sites, 14 storage tanks, 9 boats, and 7 dugout pits. Troops also seized 92,500 litres of stolen crude oil, 1,575 litres of diesel, and arrested 13 oil thieves.
Similar raids between 9 and 12 October in Delta and Rivers States led to the arrest of nine suspects and recovery of weapons, ammunition, and a vehicle.
South East: Troops Arrest IPOB/ESN Commander, Logistics Supplier
In the South East, troops of Operation UDO KA (OPUK) maintained offensive pressure against IPOB/ESN elements. Between 8 and 13 October, troops arrested a notorious IPOB/ESN commander identified as “Gentle” alongside eight accomplices in Imo and Ebonyi States.
Furthermore, on 13 October, troops apprehended a female logistics supplier in Umunneochi LGA of Abia State, who was found with three children belonging to a wanted terrorist leader, Maduabuchi Nwankwo, also known as Emergency.
The Defence Headquarters expressed deep appreciation for the sacrifices of personnel, particularly those who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty.
“Our counter-terrorism, anti-banditry, and maritime security operations are not just victories on the battlefield, but demonstrations of our resolve to secure every inch of our nation,” the spokesman stated.
He reaffirmed that the Armed Forces remain committed, resilient, and ever-ready to defend Nigeria’s territorial integrity and ensure peace nationwide.
“With continued collaboration among all stakeholders and the support of patriotic Nigerians, we will continue advancing toward a safer and more secure nation,” he concluded
