In a major breakthrough against terrorism and banditry, troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke have apprehended a high-profile suspected terrorist during a targeted operation in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.

6 Brigade Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad revealed in a press syatement that the arrest, which took place on 18 September 2025, followed credible and actionable intelligence indicating the movement of the suspect within the area. Acting swiftly, the troops tracked and intercepted the individual at Takum Junction, leading to the capture of 35-year-old Saawuan Wuaiyolna, who was arrested while riding a motorcycle.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Wuaiyolna hails from Ateryange community in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State. He is alleged to be a key member of a notorious gang of bandits led by the wanted criminal kingpin Akiki Utivi, widely known by his alias “Full Fire.”

Further findings indicate that the suspect had infiltrated Wukari to gather intelligence on troop movements and aid in the planning of coordinated attacks on innocent civilians.

The development marks a significant setback for the gang and underscores the Nigerian Army’s resolve to deny criminal elements the freedom to operate within Taraba State and neighboring regions.

Speaking on the successful operation, the Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their professionalism and gallantry. He reaffirmed the Brigade’s unwavering commitment to peace and security, urging residents to remain vigilant and share credible information with security agencies to aid ongoing operations.

“This arrest demonstrates our determination to rid Taraba and surrounding areas of terrorists, bandits, and all forms of criminality. We call on the good people of Taraba to continue cooperating with our troops by providing timely intelligence,” Brig Gen Uwa stated.

The suspect is currently in custody and undergoing further investigation, while troops remain on high alert to prevent any retaliatory attacks by the gang.
