The Olu of Warri, His Royal Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse CFR, has applauded the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) for its remarkable transformation over the years, urging the institution to continue upholding excellence in military training and leadership development.
The revered monarch made the call during a courtesy visit to the Academy in Kaduna on Wednesday, 17 September 2025. He was accompanied by a high-powered delegation of chiefs and aides and was warmly received by the NDA Commandant, Major General A.K. Ibrahim, OFR, and senior academy officials.
Speaking during the visit, HRM Atuwatse expressed admiration for the NDA’s progress, describing it as a beacon of hope for Nigeria and Africa. He praised the Academy’s role in producing gallant officers who have distinguished themselves both within and outside the country.
“The Nigerian Defence Academy is a national treasure. I am truly impressed by its growth and global outlook. I urge the leadership to remain steadfast in maintaining the high standards that have earned this institution its stellar reputation,” the Olu stated.
Major General Ibrahim briefed the royal father on the NDA’s history, its evolving mission, and its increasing international profile as it now trains cadets from allied African nations and beyond.
During a guided tour, the monarch visited the NDA Hall of Fame, where he viewed digital exhibits chronicling the Academy’s rich heritage. These included profiles of past Ministers of Defence, Service Chiefs, former Commandants, and decorated graduates. HRM Atuwatse also interacted with cadets, encouraging them to remain disciplined, hardworking, and committed to service.
The visit concluded with the presentation of a commemorative plaque to the Olu of Warri as a token of appreciation.
The event was conducted smoothly and without incident, further strengthening the bond between Nigeria’s traditional leadership and its foremost military training institution.
