The Lagos Free Trade Zone (LFTZ) Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Wednesday held a colourful ceremony to decorate twenty-nine newly promoted officers, marking a significant milestone in their careers and celebrating their hard work, dedication, and commitment to national service.
The event, which took place at the Command Headquarters in Lekki, attracted families of the honorees, senior officers, and representatives of sister security agencies.
In her address, the Customs Area Controller of the Command, Comptroller Hauwa K. Abubakar, congratulated the newly decorated officers and commended their resilience and professionalism, describing their promotion as a reward for consistent commitment and integrity in service.
“Promotion in the Service is not given lightly but earned through discipline, dedication, and the consistent demonstration of capacity,” she said. “Today’s recognition is a testament to your perseverance and invaluable contributions to the growth and success of this Command and the Service at large.”
Comptroller Abubakar urged the officers to see their new ranks as a call to higher responsibility, challenging them to serve as role models and inspire their subordinates through professionalism, discipline, and efficiency.
“With higher ranks come greater expectations. You are now positioned to raise the standard of excellence within our Command,” she added.
Highlighting the strategic role of the LFTZ Command, she noted its contributions to revenue generation, trade facilitation, and enforcement of customs laws. She expressed confidence that the promotion would further energize the officers to drive improved revenue collection, compliance in free zones and ports, and stronger stakeholder engagement.
While commending officers who were not promoted in the current exercise, she encouraged them to remain committed, assuring that the Service remains fair and just in rewarding hard work.
The Area Controller also acknowledged the presence of sister security agencies, appreciating their collaboration in promoting national security and trade facilitation.
“Your solidarity and partnership strengthen inter-agency synergy and enhance our collective responsibilities,” she said.
The ceremony ended with cheers and celebrations as families, friends, and colleagues joined the decorated officers to mark their new achievement.
This promotion exercise reflects the NCS’s ongoing commitment to recognizing excellence and boosting morale among its personnel while enhancing efficiency in service delivery.
