The Inspector General of Police, IGP Olukayode Egbetokun has pledged Nigeria Police Force efforts to strengthen intelligence sharing and joint operations with the Armed Forces and other security institutions as part of efforts to tackle the country’s evolving security challenges.
Speaking during the opening of Exercise Haske Biyu 2025, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun represented by Assistant Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Usaini Gumel, from the Nigeria Police Force Department of Training and Development emphasized that closer collaboration among security agencies is crucial to dismantling criminal networks, preventing violence, and safeguarding communities.

It also highlighted the importance of developing preventive policing strategies that address the root causes of crime, particularly by supporting families and promoting national values, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision for a safer and more secure Nigeria.
The IGP reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening inter-agency cooperation and promoting family-centered security strategies during Exercise Haske Biyu 2025, a major national security initiative focused on addressing Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
The IGP described this year’s theme, “Family and National Security,” as timely and critical, noting that the family remains the foundation of society and a key driver of peace and stability.
According to the him, strong family bonds foster values, discipline, and civic responsibility, while weak family structures often contribute to crime, radicalization, substance abuse, and violence.
He emphasized that policing alone cannot solve these challenges, stressing that security is a shared responsibility. It called for a whole-of-society approach, where families, schools, traditional rulers, faith-based organizations, and security agencies work hand in hand to break the cycle linking dysfunctional homes to insecurity. This collaborative effort, the Force said, is essential to building resilient communities and tackling the root causes of crime and violence.
In line with this vision, the Police pledged to strengthen intelligence sharing and joint operations with the Armed Forces and other security institutions. It also committed to developing preventive policing strategies that focus on supporting families and reducing vulnerabilities that often lead to crime. Furthermore, the NPF vowed to align its initiatives with the federal government’s broader agenda for a safer and more secure Nigeria.
The IGP concluded by pledging to fully support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s charge to rebuild the family unit as the seedbed of national values. It stressed that safeguarding homes is a crucial step toward securing the nation’s future, urging all Nigerians to play their part in promoting peace and unity.
“When we protect our families, we protect our nation,” the NPF stated, reaffirming its dedication to fostering a Nigeria built on strong values and collective responsibility.
