Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have dealt a major blow to the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP), killing eight terrorists, including key commanders, during an ambush along the Baga–Cross Kauwa Road in Borno State.
The clash happened in the early hours of Monday, September 15, 2025, near Garin Giwa, when insurgents attempted to disrupt military operations in the area.
According to the Media Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the terrorists ran into a well-laid ambush by gallant troops, resulting in a heavy exchange of gunfire.
Among those killed were Modu Dogo Munzir, a notorious commander from Dogon Chukun, another unidentified Munzir, and Abu Aisha, a Qaid (unit leader) from Tumbun Mota. Several other insurgents were reportedly injured, with some fleeing the scene while leaving behind their weapons and equipment.
Troops also recovered 14 motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing terrorists, a move that significantly weakens the group’s mobility and logistics in the region.
The military high command commended the troops for their bravery and urged them to maintain the momentum in the fight against insurgency. It also reassured residents of its commitment to restoring peace and security across the North East.
The operation is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist strongholds and ensure safe movement along key supply routes in Borno and surrounding areas.
