The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has launched a full-scale investigation into an explosion that occurred on Saturday morning at the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) facility in Kaduna.

The tragic incident, which happened while specialists were disposing of expired explosive materials, claimed the life of one individual and left several others injured.

According to a statement issued by Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, preliminary reports revealed that the explosion occurred during the destruction of hazardous substances, including ammonia nitrates, primer caps, and propellants.

“The injured personnel are currently receiving treatment at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital, Kaduna,” the statement read.

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, expressed his condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

Brig. Gen. Gusau assured the public that the situation is under control, emphasizing that there is no cause for alarm in the surrounding community.

“DICON maintains strict operational safety standards, and a thorough investigation will be carried out to prevent future occurrences,” he added.
