The President of the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA), Mrs. Oghogho Musa, has commissioned a newly built 38-bed maternity centre at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Hospital in Afaka, Kaduna State.

The facility, officially inaugurated on Thursday, September 25, 2025, was fully constructed, equipped, and donated by members of the NDA 38 Regular Course (RC) Association, whose patron is the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa. Mrs. Musa, who had earlier performed the groundbreaking ceremony in January 2025, returned as the Special Guest of Honour to officially open the centre.

Designed to improve maternal and child healthcare services within the NDA and surrounding communities, the maternity centre will offer services such as childbirth, antenatal and postnatal care, as well as family planning.

Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Project Committee, Rear Admiral Murtala Bashir (rtd), expressed appreciation to General Musa, members of the RC 38 Association, the Service Chiefs, and the NDA leadership for their immense support.

He highlighted that the centre is fitted with modern medical facilities, including consulting rooms and an operating theatre. Rear Admiral Bashir also commended the wives of RC 38 members, known as the “Unique 38 Ladies,” for their contributions and urged them to continue supporting the project.

According to Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, the event also featured the formal handover of the facility by the President of the RC 38 Association, Major General Solomon Udounwa, to the NDA Commandant, Major General Abdul Khalifah Ibrahim.

The ceremony was graced by several dignitaries, including the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Senator Ibrahim Hadeja, who represented Vice President Kashim Shettima, representatives of the Service Chiefs, DEPOWA executives, wives of RC 38 members, as well as serving and retired senior military officers.

This milestone project marks a significant step toward enhancing healthcare delivery for military families and the local community in Kaduna State.
