The Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), Jaji, has announced the commencement of Exercise HASKE BIYU 2025, a national security exercise designed to tackle contemporary security challenges through a whole-of-society approach.

This year’s exercise, which runs from September 15 to October 3, 2025, carries the theme “Family and National Security,” underscoring the vital role families play in building a stable and secure nation.

Speaking in a statement, the College Public Relations Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Olumide Victor Olukoya, explained that the exercise provides a platform for stakeholders across Nigeria to research, brainstorm, and develop practical solutions to pressing national security concerns.

“Exercise HASKE BIYU is designed to explore strategies for resolving internal security and counter-insurgency issues using soft power and collaborative approaches,” Olukoya stated.

The opening ceremony will be graced by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, OON, CON, as the Special Guest of Honour, reflecting the government’s recognition of the family as a cornerstone of national security.

The three-week program will bring together senior officers from the Armed Forces, government ministries and agencies, non-governmental organizations, the media, and other strategic partners. Participants will take part in discussions, case studies, and practical sessions focused on conflict resolution, counter-insurgency, and enhancing inter-agency collaboration.

One of the innovative highlights of this year’s edition is “A Day in the Life of a Soldier,” where members of the media and selected non-military participants will experience military life firsthand. This initiative is aimed at fostering better understanding and cooperation between the military and civilian stakeholders.

Olukoya added that the exercise will deepen participants’ knowledge of military operations other than war, while also encouraging the use of non-violent measures to end conflicts.

“The family unit is the foundation of any society. By strengthening families, we can build stronger communities and, ultimately, a more secure nation,” he emphasized.

Exercise HASKE BIYU 2025 will be hosted at the Jaji Military Cantonment and will involve student officers of Senior Course 47, drawn from Nigeria’s armed forces, relevant ministries, and key national stakeholders.

With a focus on collaboration and innovation, the exercise seeks to produce actionable strategies that will help Nigeria address its evolving internal security challenges.
