The Nigerian Army’s 8 Division has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to protect vulnerable children and enhance humanitarian emergency response efforts in the North West region.
Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, in a signed statement noted that the pledge was made during a courtesy visit by UNICEF Nigeria Country Representative, Mr. Charles Lolika, to the 8 Division Headquarters in Sokoto.
Representing the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division and Commander, Sector 2 Joint Task Force North West Operation FASAN YAMMA, Major General Ibikunle Ajose, the Chief of Staff, Brigadier General Abubakar Suru, reiterated the Division’s unwavering support for UNICEF’s life-saving programs.
“We recognize the critical role UNICEF plays in protecting vulnerable children and responding to emergencies,” Brig. Gen. Suru stated.
“The 8 Division is fully committed to ensuring the safety and security of UNICEF personnel while facilitating the effective implementation of their programs within our area of responsibility.”
In his remarks, Mr. Lolika expressed appreciation for the Nigerian Army’s continued collaboration, describing it as pivotal to UNICEF’s ability to reach children in dire need.
“The Nigerian Army’s support is instrumental in enabling UNICEF to reach children affected by conflict and other crises,” he said.
“This visit allows us to further strengthen our partnership and ensure we have the access and support necessary to address critical issues like malnutrition while providing timely and coordinated emergency assistance.”
Mr. Lolika added that the renewed partnership will prioritize enhanced data collection to improve intervention strategies, ensure safe operational environments for UNICEF workers, and tackle the urgent needs of children impacted by conflict and humanitarian crises.
The visit, officials said, reflects a shared commitment between the Nigerian Army and UNICEF to create a safer, more secure future for children in the region.
