In a decisive week of counter-terrorism operations, the Nigerian military has dealt heavy blows to extremist networks across the North Central region, neutralising armed elements, rescuing kidnapped victims, and seizing weapons and cash.
Director Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, disclosed that under Operation Safe Haven, troops swiftly responded to distress calls between 31 July and 3 August 2025 in Mangu, Riyom, and Jos East LGAs of Plateau State.
Fierce firefights ensued, resulting in the killing of several terrorists, the arrest of one criminal, and the rescue of three kidnapped victims. Troops also seized weapons, ammunition, motorcycles, and vehicles from the fleeing assailants.
In separate missions between 30 July and 2 August, five suspected extremists were apprehended in Mangu, Jos North, and Bassa LGAs of Plateau State.
Under Operation Whirl Stroke, security forces recorded equally remarkable successes. Operations across Benue, Taraba, Kogi, Nasarawa States, and the FCT between 30 July and 3 August 2025 led to the elimination of multiple terrorists, the arrest of two suspects, and the rescue of twelve more kidnapped victims. Troops also intercepted a suspected gunrunner in Taraba State and detained fifteen other criminals in Benue and Taraba States.
Recovered items included assorted arms, large quantities of ammunition, motorcycles, vehicles, and ₦842,100 cash. All suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
Military authorities have vowed to sustain the tempo until all terrorist hideouts are dismantled and peace is fully restored in the region.
