The Retired Army, Navy and Air Force Officers (RANAO) Association yesterday commissioned a ₦100 million Adult Day Care Centre at its Akure headquarters, as part of activities marking its annual RANAO Day celebration.
Speaking at the inauguration, RANAO Deputy Chairman, Col. Foluso Sunday Saka (rtd.), described the state-of-the-art facility as a safe haven for senior citizens, retired military officers, and members of the public. He noted that the centre would offer health checks, social engagement, and wellness programmes in a single location.
“At our stage in life, we need a place to gather, discuss, exercise, and stay active,” Saka said. “The centre will have a resident nurse to monitor blood pressure and sugar levels daily, as well as telemedicine facilities for virtual consultations with medical experts. It’s a life-saving initiative for our community.”
Ondo State Governor, represented by his Senior Special Assistant, Hon. Gbenga Atiba, commended the association’s contributions to the state, describing the project as a milestone that aligns with his administration’s Ease of Living Initiative. “This project will help our elderly thrive,” Atiba said.
The ceremony also featured a health lecture that encouraged participants to adopt healthy lifestyles through balanced diets, regular exercise, reduced consumption of over-processed foods, and backyard gardening for fresh produce.
Among the dignitaries present were pioneer leaders, including Rtd. Col. Falayi and State Chairman Col. Omowa (rtd.). The highlight of the day was the induction of new members, including entertainment entrepreneur Hon. Segun Adagunodo, popularly known as Santana, Mr. Olurotimi, and others.
