The Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos, has launched an investigation into allegations of extortion and human rights violations involving one of its personnel, Inspector Kalu.

The inquiry followed a petition circulated on social media, prompting the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), FCID Annex, Lagos, Margaret Ochalla, to direct the CP X-Squad to take up the matter.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mayegun Aminat, both Inspector Kalu and a Point of Sale (POS) operator linked to the case were arrested for questioning.

During interrogation, Inspector Kalu admitted that the petitioner had previously been reported by residents for allegedly terrorizing the community. The petitioner, upon arrest, also confessed to engaging in identity theft and provided supporting evidence. He was granted bail and instructed to return for further investigation.

The POS operator, meanwhile, confessed that the complainant had approached her for ₦4 million in cash, which she provided. She added that the complainant later returned the money and left it in her custody without explanation.

ASP Aminat disclosed that the recovered sum of ₦4 million has since been returned to the petitioner, while Inspector Kalu is currently facing an Orderly Room Trial.

Reaffirming the Police’s stance on discipline and accountability, AIG Ochalla assured members of the public that the Force maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward corruption and misconduct. She further urged Nigerians to channel complaints through official platforms, stressing that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to transparency, professionalism, and effective service delivery.
