VIDEO: MNJTF Troops Crush Boko Haram Assault in Chad, Neutralise Top Commander and Fighters

Koulfoua Island, Chad – July 16, 2025 Troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) have successfully repelled a coordinated attack by Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists on Koulfoua Island, in the Lake Chad region.

The daring early-morning assault on July 15 was met with swift and decisive firepower from the MNJTF, resulting in the death of six terrorists, including a notorious Boko Haram commander identified as Amir Dumkei.

According to Chief Military Public Information Officer, MNJTF, Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, the terrorists attempted to overrun the MNJTF base but were overpowered during intense gunfire and artillery bombardment. The remaining insurgents fled the scene with varying degrees of injuries, leaving behind weapons and equipment.

Troops recovered nine AK-47 rifles, three motorized boats, and a large cache of ammunition during the operation. Follow-up clearance operations and pursuit of the fleeing terrorists are currently underway to ensure total area security.

Reacting to the success, Force Commander of the MNJTF, Major General Godwin Mutkut, commended the troops for their gallantry, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to the fight against terrorism.

“This operation is a clear demonstration of our determination to eliminate all threats posed by Boko Haram and ISWAP elements. The safety of communities in the Lake Chad Basin remains our top priority,” Major General Mutkut stated.

The MNJTF, comprising troops from Chad, Nigeria, Niger, Cameroon, and Benin, continues to play a pivotal role in regional security, working across borders to combat insurgency and restore peace to affected communities.
