A high-level assessment team from the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), led by the Deputy Director of Operations, Major General Valentine Okoro, on Friday paid an operational visit to the headquarters of the Joint Task Force North East (OPHK) in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The visit, conducted on the directive of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, was aimed at evaluating the implementation of operational directives, assessing current operational demands, and identifying challenges requiring attention from the military high command.
Speaking during the visit, Major General Okoro conveyed the appreciation of the CDS to the troops for their dedication and resilience in the ongoing fight against insurgency in the North East. He commended the leadership of Operation HADIN KAI for fostering enhanced synergy among personnel and for the seamless integration of air and ground forces in joint operations.
“The Defence Headquarters is proud of your achievements,” General Okoro stated, adding that the CDS remains committed to providing sustained support to ensure the continued success of the operation.
In response, the Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, expressed gratitude to the assessment team for the visit, which he described as both timely and encouraging. He affirmed that OPHK remains fully aligned with directives from the Defence Headquarters and highlighted the significant impact those directives have had on recent operational successes.
General Abubakar also thanked the CDS for his unwavering support and called for the provision of additional combat enablers to further enhance operational effectiveness. He reiterated OPHK’s commitment to restoring peace and stability in the region to enable the return of normal socio-economic activities.
Headquarters Theatre Command Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations, Captain Reuben Kovangiya said in a statement that the visit featured an operational briefing, an interactive session with key personnel, the presentation of a commemorative plaque, and a group photograph.
