The Defence Headquarters,  Defence and Police Officers' Wives Association (DEPOWA), in collaboration with Benue State University Teaching Hospital Makurdi, carried out a medical outreach to Yelewata town on Thursday, 26th June, 2025, to support victims of recent attacks by armed herders.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Defence and Police Officers' Wives Association (DEPOWA), provided medical care, relief materials, and emotional support to the traumatized residents affected by the violence.

The President of DEPOWA and wife of the Chief of Defence Staff, Mrs. Oghogho Gwabin Musa, stated that while no gesture could replace what was lost, the support aims to ease their suffering during this difficult time.

Chief of Defence Military and Civil Relations, Rear Admiral Ola Bankole said the outreach is part of military social responsibility and assured the people of justice and urged residents to be vigilant and provide useful information to security agencies.

Over thirty BSUTH personnel, including doctors, nurses, laboratory Technicians, Pharmacists and other health workers, participated in the outreach. Items such as rice, Garri, clothes, toiletries, and essential drugs were distributed to the affected community.

The Chief Medical Director of the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Dr. Terungwa Stephen Hwande, represented by Cynthia Orjime, extended the hospital’s condolences and encouraged the community to remain hopeful and committed to their healing journey.

Ortaar Ucha and Chief John Kpanchokor expressed gratitude to DEPOWA and BSUTH for bringing much-needed medical assistance to their community, noting that the outreach had not only provided relief to victims of recent attacks but also restored hope and a sense of care among the people.
