The Nigerian government has extended its deepest sympathies to the government and people of Iran following a devastating explosion at the Shahid Rajaee Port in southern Iran.

The blast, which occurred on Saturday near the Strait of Hormuz, reportedly claimed the lives of 28 people and injured over 800 others.

In a statement released on Sunday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, Nigeria expressed its solidarity with Iran during this difficult time and conveyed its condolences to the families who lost loved ones in the “unfortunate incident.”

The Nigerian government commended the rapid response of emergency services and urged continued efforts to provide assistance to the injured and affected communities.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and the entire nation of Iran,” the statement concluded.

The Shahid Rajaee Port is a major shipping hub for Iran, located near the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway for global oil transit. Details surrounding the cause of the explosion are still emerging.
