Nigerian Navy Demonstrates Combat Readiness with Second Quarter Route March in Abuja


Military personnel must develop and maintain high levels of physical fitness, not only for optimal performance of occupational tasks but also to reduce injury risk and to ensure the mental health alertness as well.

Studies have explained that physical training volume positively predicted mental strength. With this being said, it is the duty of a personnel to be ready for everything situation in which the military is going to need them. Being fit is the number-one priority in any case or mission.

To achieve this, the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla has today, Saturday 13th July 2024 led over 1500 Nigerian Navy personnel on second quarter Route March at Naval Unit Parade Ground Asokoro, Abuja.

In their various Divisions, the personnel completed the march within the specified hour covering the stretch up to AYA axis of Abuja.

On return to the take-off point, at Naval Unit Parade Ground Asokoro, Abuja, Chief of Administration (Navy), Rear Admiral Kennedy Chukwu Ezeade who represented the Naval Chief addressed the personnel, speaking on the significance of the route march.

Speaking on the performance of how personnel and Corp members serving with the Nigerian Navy have done well in their conduct, Rear Admiral Kennedy Chukwu Ezeade said the essence of the exercise is for personnel to be physically fit for the Naval duty they have been assigned to do. "The essence is to condition our bodies to ensure that we are physically fit."

He added that the exercise is to create awareness for citizen to know they have a Navy strong enough to carry out task and to promote comradeship among personnel which is observed in all Nigerian Navy formations nationwide.

"The route march and other physical exercises that we do, is to continue to condition us such that we are physically and mentally fit to be able to carry out our functions. 

He reiterated the Nigerian Navy’s resolve to be combat ready and commended all the efforts of personnel that took part in the exercise. He encouraged them to get ready for the remaining route march before the end of the year.
