UPDATED: FactCheck: Is Nollywood Actor Junior Pope dead or Alive?

The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has expressed sorrow over the death of renowned Nollywood actor John Paul Odonwodo, popularly known as Junior Pope.

The National President of AGN, Emeka Rollas, confirmed the news of Junior Pope’s passing in an Instagram post on Thursday. The actor and three of his colleagues were returning from a movie location in a boat when they fell into the Anam River in Anambra on Wednesday.

Rollas wrote,
“It is so sad that our joy was short-lived. My first post was out of excitement when we noticed his tingling fingers. Two notable hospitals tried their best to revive him but to no avail. God knows best. We finally lost him. Mr. Friday’s corpse has been identified but three other corpses are yet to be found.”

SpyeTV FactCheck earlier revealed that, a post via the Instagram page of the Actor Guild of Nigeria on Wednesday night, revealed that Junior Pope is still alive and currently undergoing treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

The post read, “Junior Pope is alive. He is taking treatment in the hospital."

The movie star was reported dead on Wednesday, April 10, alongside three of his colleagues after their boat capsized in Anam River in Anambra state.  Jr Pope dies on set while shooting a movie. Close sources say they were shooting a movie at River Niger where he was drowned and his dead body with another victim rescued.  More details soon…
