"Our Aim is to Carry Nigeria Flag Globally" - Maj. General Maikano Announces 1st National Skating Championship, ABUJA2023

 

Major General Abdullahi Maikano was known for his involvement in sporting activities and physical fitness and was a critical stakeholder in the military sport in Africa. But the President of the Organisation of Military Sport in Africa (OSMA) who doubles as the Vice President of CISM has added his voice to the nation’s sports, with the Skating Federation of Nigeria as his port of call.

The Military General today, 3rd October 2023 met with members of the team and the media in his office in Abuja to unveil another big inspiring sporting event, the  1st National Skating Championship, ABUJA2023" which is scheduled to take place between 30th November and 3rd December this year.

Major General Abdullahi Maikano said, about 2000 youths will be participating in the 42.5 kilometres Marathon Race of Skating which will start from Airport Road to the City Gate in Abuja under heavy security and road safety watch. 

"At the moment, 20 States including the FCT have indicated an interest in sending Skaters to represent their states at the 1st National Skating Champions in Abuja, after which winners will be travelling to Greece to participate in the Championship," he said

He stressed that participation in international competitions will allow Nigerian skaters to gain exposure and experience at a global level.

We aim to carry the Nigeria flag into the arena of National Skating competition in the world and Skating competitions wherever it is in the world and we will make sure that skating becomes popular in Nigeria among the Youths and the children.

He assured participants of safety and security as the organizers will be engaging the services of the Nigeria Police Force, NSCDC, and Others.

He noted that there would be awards, prices and Trophies for winners of each category and there would be medical support and ambulance on standby. 

On the age limit, he said the technical team are working on it but 17 years old and above will be the requirement as there will be provision for children to participate in the Skating competition.

Maj. General Maikano noted that past skating events have not only boosted the confidence of our athletes but have also helped raise the profile of skating as a legitimate and competitive sport in the country. All these previous events have collectively contributed to the excitement and anticipation surrounding the "First-ever National Skating Championship, ABUJA2023." 

"They serve as a testament to the dedication and hard work of the skating community in Nigeria and set the stage for what promises to be a memorable and historic competition.
