The DEPOWA President Mrs Oghogho Gwabin Musa has said the 3-day medical outreach which was flagged-Off on Wednesday will end tomorrow, 21st of October, 2023 with free medical check-up for DEPOWA members and a road march/aerobics exercise to encourage women to be physically active and take care of their health.
President, DEPOWA, Mrs Oghogho Gwabin Musa said this today while reaching out to Orphans and Vulnerable children, plus children of fallen heroes in Abuja.
yMrs Musa who flagged -Off the DEPOWA’s 3-day medical outreach , which kicked start with a facility tour of the DHQ medical centre which is strategically positioned to provide quality health services to officers and their families noted that the aerobics exercise is important "so we can continue to take care of the home front as our husbands go about their National duties.
It would be recalled that on Wednesday, the DEPOWA President in a bid to support to the good work the management of Defence Headquarters DHQ Medical Centre, donated CTG machine to monitor the fetal Heart when a woman is in labour, Phototherapy machine, Ultrasound Machine, Examination couch and screens and so many other equipment to ensure military women, children as well as the men have the best healthcare possible here at DHQ Medical Centre, Mogadishu Cantonment.
This initiative, according to DEPOWA President is key to appreciate their efforts, identify challenges and gaps the medical centre is facing in service provision so DEPOWA can help bridge and support the centre in the little way we can.
"The goal of this Medical Outreach is to reach out, create awareness, sensitize women and children in our beloved community on common health conditions and preventive practices.
"This is because Nigeria has one of the highest death rates among women and children hence my passion towards supporting quality provision of maternal and child health services.
The outreach has so far sensitized over 200 Adolescent girls from all tri-service schools on HPV Infection and its Vaccine for to prevent their generation from Cervical Cancer, as prevention is better than cure.
She said, the children also will not be left out, as DEPOWA will reach out to Orphans and Vulnerable children including children of our fallen heroes to encourage them on healthy practices, deworm them, provide medical services and support them with school supplies
October is a breast cancer awareness month and this is important because breast cancer is the second commonest cancer in the world while cervical cancer is the 4th most frequent cancer in women.
