Army War College Nigeria Decorates 16 Soldiers, Reinforces Commitment to Excellence

PppIn a dignified ceremony, the Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) decorated a total of 16 soldiers with their new ranks on Thursday 27 October, 2023 at the Okunola Hall of the College in Asokoro, Abuja. The promoted soldiers included 1 Staff Sergeant promoted to Warrant Officer, 2 Sergeants promoted to Staff Sergeants, 3 Corporals promoted to Lance Corporals, and 10 Lance Corporals promoted to Corporals.

In his remarks, Major General Ishaya Buba Maina, the Commandant AWCN ably represented by Brigadier General Aminu Umar, the Deputy Commandant and Director of Studies offered his heartfelt congratulations to the newly promoted soldiers.

He emphasized the significance of their new ranks, reminding them of the increased responsibilities and the expectations that accompanied the new promotion. General Umar urged the soldiers to always keep in mind the welfare of their families, as their well-being is interconnected with the soldiers' own commitment to duty.

In his words, General Umar said, "As you assume your new ranks, remember that your commitment to duty extends to both the frontlines and your loved ones at home. Your families play an essential role in your lives, and their well-being should be of utmost importance to you. These promotions come with the duty to protect not only your nation but also those who depend on you."

Colonel A Abdullahi, the Director of Coordination, earlier in his opening remarks reminded the soldiers of the significance of their roles in maintaining discipline and representing the AWCN positively. 

He charged them to be exemplary in their conduct and to uphold the values and standards of the Nigerian Army.

The ceremony was attended by Directors, Members of the Faculty, College Staff, and Family Members, some of whom offered words of advice and well wishes to the newly promoted soldiers.
