Army Public Relations Directorate Decorates Newly Promoted Soldiers

The Director, Army Public Relations Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu has decorated four soldiers of the Directorate who were among the beneficiaries of Sergeant to Staff Sergeant, Staff Sergeant to Warrant Officer (Former WO Class 2 – Also called a Company Sergeant Major), Corporal to Sergeant, and Private to Lance Corporal promotion approved by the Army Council for the year 2023. 

Speaking at the decoration ceremony, the Director who congratulated them for their commitment and for earning the promotion stressed that the promotion has not stopped there but has opened a new chapter for them to start afresh, because they must move to the next rank and to get to the next rank, they must work harder, more diligent and dedicated.

He urged them not to rest on their oars, and to remain loyal and never allow their loyalty to be questionable. 

While urging them to ensure that the benefits that come with their new ranks are utilized to improve their families’ welfare, wished them more promotions and prayed for them to enjoy the rank in sound health.

He noted that Promotion comes as a result of diligence, dedication, hard work, discipline and loyalty. "You earned your promotion and it means you have contributed to the pursuit of the constitutional mandate of the Nigerian Army, and of the command philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff, COAS, they have contributed to the peace and stability of Nigeria.

Those decorated today were; Staff Sergeant Jamiu Yunusa to Warrant Officer (Former WO Class 2 – Also called a Company Sergeant Major) Private Mohammed Usman to Lance Corporal, Corporal Ozurumba Williams to Sergeant, and Sergeant Yunusa Attahiru to Staff Sergeant.

Jamiu Yunusa

Staff Sergeant Jamiu Yunusa was born on 1 November 1973 into the family of Mallam Jamiu Useh Obaro in Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State. 

He started his early education with Igbirra Native Authority (INA) Primary School Okengwe from 1983-1988, where he obtained a Leaving Certificate. He proceeded to Ebira Muslim Community College Okengwe (EMCCO) from 1989 - 1994 and graduated with a Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE). He went to Niger State Polytechnic where he got National Diploma (ND) in Computer Science and obtained his Higher National Diploma (HND) in Computer Science with Interlink Polytechnic Osun State 2018.

SSgt Jamiu was enlisted into the Nigerian Army on 18 August 1997 as a member of 45 Regular Intake from the Depot Nigerian Army Kaduna and posted to the Headquarters Directorate of Army Public Relations (HQ DAPR) Lagos.

His hobbies include Badminton, Cheese and Chatting. Sgt Jamiu Yunusa is happily married to Mrs Maryam Atanda Yunusa and blessed with four (4) children, two (2) boys and two (2) girls.

Mohammed Usman

Private Mohammed Usman was born on 02 October 1996 in Taraba State. He attended his primary education at RoyalBem International School Kaduna and later proceeded to Gibeon International Secondary School Kaduna.

He was enlisted into the Nigerian Army on 23 April 2018 as a member of 77 Regular Recruit Intake and was posted to the Headquarters Directorate of Army Public Relations.

Ozurumba Williams

Cpl Ozurumba Williams was born on 5 December 1986 into the family of Mr/Mrs Chukwuma Vincent Ozurumba in Omoku-Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, of Rivers State. He attended St Michael's Primary School from 1991 to 1997 and Secondary Education in Community Secondary School Osiapku from 1997 - 2003. He was posted to the Directorate of Army Public Relations (DAPR). Ozurumba has served in various Formation/Units including the Directorate of Army Public Relations Rear (DAPR(R) Victoria Island, Lagos from 2007 - 2008, Armed Forces Command and Staff College Jaji Kaduna, Nigeria, from 2008-2015 and was TOS in HQ DAPR on 14 Nov 16 - till date.

Cpl Williams is happily married with 3 children 2 boys and a girl, and his hobbies are listening to music, watching football and jogging.

Yunusa Attahiru

And, Sergeant Yunusa Attahiru was born on 14 July 1980 in Kebbi State. He attended Nassarawa Primary School and proceeded to Government Day Secondary School Birnin Kebbi.

He was enlisted into the Nigerian Army on 18 February 2002 as a member of 51RRI and was posted to HQ DAPR.

Sgt Attahiru also participated in the United Nations Mission in Darfur Sudan (UNAMID) in 2008 and 2012 respectively. At his leisure, he enjoys playing football and volleyball. He is happily married and the union is blessed with 3 boys and 2 girls.
