The President of, Defence and Police Officers Wives' Association (DEPOWA), Mrs Oghogho Gwabin Musa has said the association will by the end of this month commence the training for widows drawn from all the Associations, and will embark on various campaigns and initiatives to support women development which is one of the integral objectives of the Association.
Mrs. Musa said this when he led the DEPOWA, NAOWA, NOWA, POWA, and NAFOWA executives on a courtesy visit to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja Today, 21 September 2023 at the Army Headquarters, Abuja.
According to Mrs Musa, the association will also pay visits to orphanages, Internally Displaced Persons camps outside the military community, visit to wounded soldiers to provide additional aid for their recovery as being part of the Armed Forces Peace Building agenda all channeled towards the non-kinetic support in the fight against terrorism.
She therefore seek for the support of the Chief of Defence Staff, Service Chiefs and the Inspector General of Police, for the fulfilment of the dreams and aspirations.
"I know we can rely on your cooperation and extensive insight as we are fully ready to keep contributing our part in nation building." she stressed.
"DEPOWA is unique because of her collaborative structure as we have the Presidents of NAOWA, NOWA, NAFOWA and POWA serving as DEPOWA vice presidents, we also have the wives of Heads of tri-service Institutions serving as DEPOWA Coordinators.
"Having carried out a needs assessment, we intend to do more for our youths in the barracks through skill acquisition programs, more knowledge in Information Technology and to further reduce poverty, we have begun reaching out to the most vulnerable in our various barracks and surrounding communities." she added
Receiving the audience of the DEPOWA and her entrouge, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja thanked the team for the visit and the confident they have in the Nigerian Army.
The COAS said, the Nigerian army is ready to support the DEPOWA to achieve all it's dreams and aspirations as DEPOWA over the years, positively touched so many lives through skill acquisition and empowerment programs, providing schooling facilities, charity and economic growth opportunities to the less privilege amongst others.
Dignitries at the visit include principal staff officers of the Nigerian Army, Presidents of NAOWA, representative of NOWA President, representative of NAFOWA and Mrs Egbetokun, the Presdient of POWA.
