The Chief of Defence Staff has tasked the Joint Task Force Commanders on the need for innovation and adaptability and to embrace new technologies, fostering a culture of innovation, and promoting a learning mindset which are essential for maintaining military operational edge.
The Defence Chief gave this assertion today, 16th September, 2023 at the closing of the maiden DHQ Joint Task Force Commanders Conference, 2023 in Abuja.
The CDS stressed that the security landscape is ever-evolving, and the military must continuously assess and improve the strategies, tactics, and capabilities to effectively counter emerging threats.
"Let us encourage and empower our personnel to think creatively, to challenge conventional wisdom, and to enmbrace change as we strive for continuous improvement.
"Similarly, the need to reform the structure of the various operations was keenly noted and will be considered. Other challenges like the inadequate manpower, lack of support weapons, gun trucks and drones, as well as the inadequate tracking equipment and the teams to operate them has been noted. The issue of inadequate personal rifles will also be addressed.
The CDS also emphasized the importance of building and maintaining strong relationships with the communities. The trust and support of the local population are critical in our efforts to counter insurgency, terrorism, and other security challenges.
"We must continue to engage with community leaders, religious leaders, and other stakeholders, listening to their concerns, addressing their grievances, and involving them in the decision-making processes. By doing so, we can gain valuable insights, foster cooperation, and build resilient communities that are actively involved in securing their own futures."he said
The CDS urged them to maintain open lines of communication and collaboration beyond this conference. Strengthen the bonds of camaraderie and friendship that have been formed here, for it is through these connections that we can continue to learn from one another, support each other, and collectively overcome challenges.
"Remember, our mission is not only to protect our nation's security but also to safeguard the values, freedoms, and aspirations of our fellow countrymen. We bear a tremendous responsibility, but we are not alone in this endeavor.
"We have the support and trust of the Nigerian people, and we must honor that trust by upholding the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and respect for human rights.
The CDS therefore admonished them to leave the conference with a renewed sense of purpose, a shared vision for the future, and a commitment to excellence. "Let us be bold, innovative, and proactive in our approach to national security. Together, we can overcome any challenge and build a safer, more secure Nigeria for future generations."
"As commanders, it is imperative that we foster a culture of cooperation, collaboration, and synergy among our forces. By breaking down barriers, sharing resources, and leveraging each other's strengths, we can maximize our collective impact and achieve our shared objectives. Let us bring this spirit of jointness back to our respective task forces and integrate it into our daily operations."he noted
