'Be Loyal to Constituted Authority' - Defence Minister Charges 156 Sub-Lieutenants Newly Commissioned into Nigerian Navy

The Nigerian Naval College (NNC) today, Saturday 25 March 2023, had Passing Out Parade and Commissioning Ceremony of Special Duty Pre Commissioning Training 2022, commissioned 156 new sub-lieutenants after a military ritual passing out parade at Onne, Rivers State.

The commissioned officers had just successfully completed an intensive course designed for cadets of special duty pre-commissioning training 2022.

The graduands were also individually and collectively conferred Presidential commission and were as well administered oath of allegiance in pursuant to extant military traditions.

Special guest of honour, Maj. General Bashir Salihi Magashi (rtd), represented by Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral AZ Gambo, charged the officers to be loyal to constituted authority and, never to allow their personal interests to override national interest.

The cadet training was said to have included modular courses like leadership and management course for young naval officers, sub-lieutenant technical course, basic security and maritime operations course, visit, board search and seizure course and law of arms conflict and humanitarian courses.

Further, the Nigerian Naval College inculcated officer-like qualities, leadership capability and the requisite knowledge which considerably provides a good foundation for naval officers.

Highlights of the event was the presentation of awards to officers who excelled in various training activities such as Cadet AK Idoko who bagged the Chief of Naval Staff award for overall best cadet in order of merit.

Others are Cadet OJ Obende – best in cross country, Cadet M. Shehu – best in combat shooting, Cadet HA Collins – best female in combat shooting and Cadet S Dikiya who was the best in leadership and organisation.
