The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba has commended INEC, Security personnel other officials who did their best to minimize the impact of political thugs whose sole agenda was to create chaos and scare voters from coming out to vote.
The IGP gave this commendation after touring about eight polling stations in the FCT including visiting the INEC Collation Centre at International Conference Center (ICC) which is going to serve as National Collation Center (NCC), Abuja
Speaking with Journalists, the IGP said the level of preparedness at INEC Collation centre here is encouraging and he is satisfied with the type of responses, results and information they are getting from the field.
The IGP noted that the performance of INEC officials, the performance of security officers and the electorates on how they are responding to the issue of excercising their power of votes are all being accessed there and information is being collected.
He said, this is the most organised, and peaceful and election he has witnessed in his career in the Police Force. "I have been participating in elections and election security and I think we have done well so far. Generally, the performances of everybody is encouraging, particularly the turnout in the South East is very encouraging.”
On the blast in Gwoza, in Borne State which is over 200 kilometers from Maiduguri, the IGP said the security forces have repel further attacks in the general area and election was conducted in major villages and towns.
SpyeTV News reports that, the Inspector-General of Police took out time to access about POLLING UNITS 016 AND 017 AREA 8, POLLING UNITS Sa' Peyis Palace Garki, Polling Unit 038 Federal Capital Development Authority Quarters Gate, and polling unit 001 Life Camp Abuja among others.
