... As Former COAS, Lt Gen Azubuike Ihejirika (Rtd) Harps on best strategies to end Insecurity
The Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya has again given a final advise to criminals, thugs, hooligans and miscreants in their own interest to abide by the laws of the nation and not interfere as the law abiding citizens and good people of Nigeria go to the polls to freely exercise their constitutional right to vote.
The Army Chief gave this advise while inaugurating Army War College Nigeria Participants course 7/2023 which took place on Friday 17 February 2023, at Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) Abuja with 73 participants, composed of 63 Nigerian Army Officers, 2 Nigerian Navy, 2 Nigerian Air Force Officers and 7 allied Officers from friendly countries while 1 participants from the Ministries, Departments and agencies will take part during module 3.

The allied officers comprises of 1 participants each from the Republic of Benin, Cameroon, Cote d'Ivoire, and the Republic of Liberia. Also one participants each from the Kingdom of Morocco, and Niger Republic. There is also a participants from Gambia.
According to the Chief of Army Staff, as Nigerians move to the 2023 general elections, the Nigerian Army reassured the nation of the commitment and resolve adding that the Army alone with other services agencies and stakeholders of our preparedness to provide conducive environment for a free fair, uncredible election.
General Faruk Yahaya who is the Special Guest of Honour at the Inauguration Ceremony and Inaugural Lecture of Army War College Nigeria Participants course 7/2023 said for a decade now, the nation has been grappling with an array of security challenges ranging from Insurgency, kidnapping, banditry and other form of threats.
He noted that the Nigerian army is not relenting in tackling this threats through improved strategies, commitment and synergy with the other services and other stakeholders and these efforts have recorded a lot of successes and Nigerian army will continue to improve on these gains, leveraging on our improved training display as well as department and other enablers provided by the President, Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces.
The COAS while inaugurating the Course 6/2023 said the course will also enhance understanding and synergy between the armed forces of Nigeria and other security agencies in the conduct of operations.
"This actually keyed into my vision, for the Nigerian army which is to have a professional Nigerian army ready to accomplish assign missions within a joint environment in defence of Nigeria.
"To this end it is my desire to sustain that you don't underscoring drive in confronting the contents erring security challenges where improving personal training, welfare unprofessionalism in order to achieve the dial end state", he stressed.
In his remarks, the Commandant Army War College Nigeria, Major General Bamidele Alabi said the Army War College Nigeria has been well groomed into producing an Allied league of critical thinkers who strive not only to identify challenges bedeviling the nation, but to provide strategies and solutions that will mitigate them.
Major General Bamidele Alabi congratulated participants of Army War College Nigeria Course 7/2023 for their nomination, noting that task before them on the course is enormous and stakes are also high, therefore, he encouraged them to exact themselves in order to add value to the solution being solved for many problems which Nigerian Army and other services and security agencies are confronting at the operational level.
In his lecture to welcome the new student, a former Chief of Army Staff, Azubuike Ihejirika, a retired lieutenant general said the military has a capacity that the nation could tap into in dealing with security problems, adding that the best strategies that work best are those that will lead to the use of one stone to kill two or more birds thus, urged Nigerian army to continue to contribute to national development.
He urged participants of Army War College Nigeria Course 7/2023 to understand thr importance of the course not just for promotion not just any other course but to develop their ability to think strategically and come up with solutions where there are seemingly no solution.
Azubuike Ihejirika, a retired lieutenant general lectured on the topic, "The Role of Nigerian Army and National Development" which is quite apt with the current realities in the country today.
Highlighting the curriculum, the Deputy Commander Director of Studies AWCN, Brigadier General U Muhammed Alkali said the Course started on 6th of February 2023, and will hold for 33 weeks, the participants of Army War College Course 7/2023 will undergo series of lectures, seminars, exercises and visit, designed to enhance their competency to function efficiently as Operational Level Leaders.
The curriculum of the Army War College of Nigeria centers on the examination of theories, concept, and systems as applied to national security, strategy decision making and conflict analysis., and the central academic focus is on military strategic leadership, operational art and campaign value.
The inaugural lecture usually set the tone for robust discussion by the course participants and therefore look forward to some thought provoking discussions that will set the tone for the course and agitate our minds towards finding the lasting solutions to the country security problems facing us.
