The Honourable Minister of Defence (HMOD) Major General Bashir Magashi(rtd) has called on 51 Newly decorated Major Generals of the Nigerian Army to give maximum support to the Chief of Defence Staff and all other service Chiefs, mentor and encourage young officers and junior colleagues to imbibe positive attitude and commitment to work assiduously in order to end insecurity in the country.
Defence Minister ably represented by the Ministry of Defence Permanent Secretary, Dr Ibrahim Abubakar Kana made the call today, Friday 23rd December, 2022 at the Investiture Ceremony of newly promoted Major Generals of the Nigerian Army held at Army Headquarters Command Officers, Asokoro Abuja.
General Magashi stressed that elevation is a call for sacrifices of discharging more duties as enshrined in the constitution of Nigeria, hence the need for newly promoted Generals of the Army to support, sacrifice and take renewed responsibility towards tackling the security challenges bedeviling the country.
He enjoined them to be apolitical towards ensuring peaceful, free, and fair 2023 general elections. "We must all come together and provide a workable solutions which is only done in the prevailing security threat and for the forth coming General elections.
The minister of Defence tasked the newly decorated Generals of the Nigerian Army to be ready to discharged any task that may come to them in their new rank as Major-General and urged those not promoted to continue to work hard, as promotion will only come at the right time.
The Defence Minister also encouraged other young officers to aspire and endeavour to be the best, to get to the peak of their career, adding that, these can only be achieved due to hardwork, dedication and professionalism.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya charged newly decorated Generals to command their formations and units and head departments and establishment of the Nigerian Army, saying, imput from them will galvanize Army Headquarters and move the Nigerian Army forward.
"Don't relent, as a lots more is expecting of you. Look at your areas of responsibility and support the system as you are awarenofnthe nations security. I have no doubt that you can deliver. Therefore, acknowledge and follow the virtues which is discipline, professionalism, loyalty, character and remain committed and dedicated, when providing your services.
The Army Chief said, promotion is a privilege but given as a result of loyalty, dedication and commitment to service through professionalism, discipline and integrity and other virtues.
He admonished the newly decorated Generals "In your act and conduct, let it reflex as a General of the Nigerian Army, in everything you do, in your dispositions, in your operations and in your administration."
SpyeTV News reports that, the Chief of Administration (Army) Maj General Williams Ali in his welcome address noted that, in 2022 alone, about 22,195 private warrant Officers were promoted to higher rank, while 807 Warrant Officers to Master Officers, 28 Master Officers where also promoted to Army Warrant Officers.
Dignitaries at the event included the Minister of Defence, ably represented, Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Army Staff, President of NAOWA, National Assembly Members, principal senior officers, and Families of decorated Generals.
