Nigerian Army Has Been the Pillar of Amnesty Programmes in Niger Delta - PAP Seeks More Collaboration With Army

The Interim Administrator, Presidential Armnesty Programme (PAP) , Major General Barry Tariye Ndiomu (rtd) has said that, the Nigerian Army efforts as the Chief Supporter of Amnesty programmes in Niger Delta made PAP become an enduring institution for de-escalating and defusing the militant insurgency that destabilised the oil-rich Niger Delta over the preceding decade.

General Ndiomu said this on Thursday when he led his entourage on a courtesy visit on the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya at the Army Headquarters, Abuja.

He said the PAP which one  designed to achieve broader socioeconomic and stabilisation 
solicited for more collaboration and support of the Nigerian Army (NA) to enable it achieve its given mandate.

He said, the challenges have necessitated his visit to the COAS and solicit his immense support and collaboration in the area of human capital development, logistics among others to enable PAP implement its programmes and activities.

He acknowledged the contributions of the Nigerian Army to the PAP over the years in the area of training, security and logistics support and urged for the sustenance.

He commended the efforts, commitment and gallantry of the Nigerian Army troops towards mitigating the multifaceted security challenges across the country and urged them to maintain the tempo.

The Interim Administrator also thanked the Commander AHQ Garrison, Commanders and personnel for their swift response, the General Officer Commanding 6 Div and troops for their professionalism in maintaining peace in the Niger delta region and for assisting their operations in the zone.

Responding, the COAS Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya appreciated PAP Interim Administrator and his team for the visit, noting that the Nigerian Army will continue to support all it’s programmes and activities to enable him achieve its mandate.

The COAS recalled the long standing relationship between both organizations and promised to leverage on it for the benefit of all.

He congratulated General Idiomu (rtd) for his recent appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari and expressed confidence in his capacity to discharge his duties credibly.
