He stated this during an interview on Channels Forum, a Channels Television special to mark Nigeria’s 62nd Independence anniversary. “80,000 now,” he said in response to the number of Boko Haram ex-fighters and their family members that have surrendered and are in military custody. The figure, he stated, is 30,000 more than the initial 50,000 former insurgents that gave up their arms to turn a new leaf last year.

Thisday - The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) may be under constraint to conduct 2023 elections in over 686 communities under the atrocious activities of armed non-state actors across the federation, THISDAY’s findings have revealed. The findings also revealed that the affected communities and wards cut across 90 local government areas (LGAs) and 18 states of the federation. President Muhammadu Buhari had directed security agencies to ensure stability before December 31.

8. ANTI-BANDITRY: EL-RUFAI CONDEMNS LYNCHING OF HERDERS IN BIRNIN GWARI LGA.
PRNigeria - The Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufa’i has condemned in the strongest terms the killing of two herders by a mob in Birnin Gwari LGA. Security agencies reported that the mob forcefully seized the two herders from security personnel, on unsubstantiated claims that they were linked with banditry. The mob then lynched and burnt the herders, even though they had not been found complicit of the allegations.

Crimechannel - An High Court in Akure has sentenced no fewer than four people to life imprisonment for kidnapping a traditional leader in Ondo State in 2015. One Lucky Smart was convicted alongside three others; Abraham Mike, John Felix, and Roson Anufa Amory for their involvement in the crime. However, Mr. David Ikpen, who was arraigned alongside the criminals, was released and found not guilty due to a lack of evidence.

Crimechannel - Police operatives in Kwara State have arrested the Chief Medical Director at Kaiama General Hospital in the state, Dr Adio Adeyemi Adebowale, for alleged murder. Adio was arrested in connection with the alleged murder of one Ifeoluwa (f) declared missing at Tanke area of Ilorin in 2021 and one Nofisat Halidu in Kaiama, Kaiama Local Government Area of the State. This was disclosed by the spokesman of the State Police Command, Okasanmi Ajayi, in Ilorin on Sunday.
13. FOUR FAKE BEGGARS USING DOCTOR TO INJECT KIDS TO MAKE THEIR STOMACHS SWELL ARRESTED.
Crimechannel - No fewer than four men were apprehended by the Lagos State Police command for allegedly parading minors as beggars according to the spokesman of the state, Benjamin Hundeyin. In a tweet on Saturday, Hundeyin claimed the men got the children from villages and brought them to Lagos to seek alms. Hundeyin further explained how a Medical Doctor allegedly provided injections which were given to the children to make their stomachs swell.

Vanguard - A Man identified as Abubakar Abubakar has killed his 12-year-old brother, Yusuf Abubakar, while testing the efficacy of a newly prepared charm against gun shots. According to the Vanguard, the man killed his younger brother at their residence in Dutse Gogo Town, via Kaiama, in Kaiama local government area of Kwara state on Sunday. It was reported that the two brothers, sons of a hunter, were reportedly excited over the newly prepared gun shot protective charm that prevents gun shots from penetrating and killing anyone. The elder brother who had reportedly fortified his brother with the newly prepared charm, asked his younger brother, Yusuf to stand aloof in order to test the charm.
15. POLICE BOSS ADVISES MILITARY ON HOW TO FIGHT RISING BANDITRY, OTHERS.
Dailytrust - The Commandant of the Police Academy College Wudil, Kano State, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Ahmad Abdulrahman, has urged the Nigerian Military to make use of the existential local fighters in curbing the rising banditry bedevilling Kaduna State. According to the Daily Trust, the police college commandant charged the security agencies to work with the 30,000 Coalition Joint Task Force members in the State to fight banditry and other crimes ransacking it.
16. FLOOD KILLS 37 LIVES, SUBMERGES 89,000 FARMLANDS IN ADAMAWA.
AREWA AGENDA – A heavy downpour across Adamawa State this rainy season has killed 37 lives, submerged 89, 000 hectres of farmlands. Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA) which confirmed the human casualty, said 58 other people sustained injuries. The agency said that in all, 171, 000 persons were affected, while 89, 000 hectres of farmlands were submerged. The Executive Secretary of ADSEMA, Dr. Muhammad Suleiman, who made the disclosure, said the flood was particularly destructive in Madagali, Fufore, Yola South, Yola North, Girei, Demsa, Numan, Lamurde, Guyuk and Shelleng local government areas.
17. 50 PEOPLE REPORTEDLY FEARED DEAD IN GHASTLY ACCIDENT.
About 15 dead bodies of farmers who perished in a boat accident were reportedly found in Gwamtamu village of Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State. According to reports, the event happened when the farmers were trying to harvest their crops from a flooded farmland. The farmers numbering over 50, were said to be in 12 canoes paddling round to harvest their maize when the canoes capsized as a result of heavy rainfall and strong wind.
18. 2 LYNCHED PERSONS ARE TERRORISTS, NOT HERDERS, COMMUNITY TACKLES KADUNA GOVT.
Leadership - Barely 24 hours after Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State condemned the lynching of two persons believed to be herders in Birnin-Gwari local government area of the State as well as ordering investigation into the incident, Birnin Gwari Emirate Progressive Union (BEPU), has revealed the identities of the lynched persons, saying that they were not herders but terrorist mercenaries from Sudan.
19. WE’RE AGAINST VIOLENT AGITATION IN NIGERIA – OHANAEZE
Ohanaeze Ndigbo, an apex Igbo social-cultural organisation, says the body is against violent agitation in any form because the group believes in the continued corporate existence of the country. The group stated this at a news conference on Monday in Abakaliki as part of activities marking the 62 anniversary of Nigeria’s independence from British colonial rule and the 26 anniversary of the creation of Ebonyi State in Nigeria. The body which spoke through Dr Peter Mbam, President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Ebonyi chapter, however, noted that the body was against all forms of marginalisation, including social injustice and misgovernance.
20. KWARA POLICE ARREST CHIEF MEDICAL DIRECTOR FOR ALLEGED MURDER OF GIRLFRIEND, HOUSEWIFE.
Detectives of the Kwara State Police Command have arrested the Chief Medical Director of Kaiama General Hospital, Dr. Adio Adeyemi Adebowale, for allegedly killing his girlfriend, Nofisat Halidu. The detectives recovered two decomposed bodies inside Adebowale’s office located at Kaiama town, the headquarters of Kaiama local government area of the state.
