Nigerian Army Organises Sensitization Workshop on Humanitarian and Human Right Laws for Troops in North East

...GOC Charge troops to take advantage and broaden their knowledge

The Nigerian Army (Army Headquarters Department of Civil Military Affairs) has organised Sensitization Workshop with the theme "Enhancing Professionalism and Responsiveness of the Nigerian Army Soldiers through Proper Observance of Humanitarian and Human Right Laws" for troops in North East.

Declaring the workshop opened, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Sector 1 Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) Major General Waidi Shaibu reiterated that the workshop is coming at the right time when the NA is involved in several operations across the six geopolitical zones of the country.

General Shaibu who was represented at the occasion by the Commander 7 Division Garrison, Brigadier General AGL Haruna who gave the charge on Monday, 8 August, 2022 at the Theatre Command Officers' Mess Maimalari Cantonment.

He further added that as the NA is operating in a joint enviroment with other security agencies, a high level of discipline and Professionalism is required from troops in order to ensure successful operations.

The GOC therefore, expressed optimism that no doubt the strict observance of Humanitarian and Human Rights Laws will enhance performance of troops either in Internal Security Operations or Peace Support Operations and urged all participants to pay attention as it will broaden their knowledge.

In his opening remarks, the Team Leader and Director of Civil Military Cooperation Colonel Kayode Ogunsanya said the maiden edition of the Sensitization Workshop commenced in DEPOT NA and NMS and it was in appreciation and recognition of the initiative the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya graciously approved the second phase to hold in 7 and 8 Division respectively.

He said "It is essential that participants of this workshop take seriously the importance of the event as it is focused on not only enhancing the Professionalism of the troops but also to win positive perception for the NA in various theatres of Operations. Col Ogunsanya therefore, urged all participants to pay attention as the lectures are being delivered by the resource persons.

The climax of the workshop were the lecture series, interactions session, where opportunities was given for questions and answers. 

The workshop was attended by Principal Staff Officers from Headquarters 7 Division, officers and soldiers drawn from various Formations and Units across the Division's Area of Operation.
