The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) says it’ll continue to accord Data security top priority attention to ensure economic growth.
The Registrar General/ CEO of the Commission, Alhaji Garba Abubakar stated this while receiving the National Commissioner/CEO, Nigeria Data Protection Bureau, Dr. Vincent Olatunji on a courtesy call to the Commission.
The Registrar General said the Commission as a huge data reservoir would continue to partner with the Nigeria Data Protection Bureau to ensure development of the Nigerian economy.
Alhaji Garba Abubakar who highlighted some of the Commission’s reform initiatives relating to Data protection stressed that it would continue to abide by the provisions of the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation 2019 in its operations.
Speaking earlier, the National Commissioner, Nigeria Data Protection Bureau, Dr. Vincent Olatunji said the visit was aimedat amongst others enhancing the Commission’s operations as a Data reservoir serving Nigerians and the International community.
He applauded CAC’s reform initiatives and described its website as top notchurging to ensure its maintenance in accordance with the provisions of the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation 2019.
CAC News reports that the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) was issued in January 2019 pursuant to Section 6 (a, c) of the NITDA Act 2007.
The Regulation is the current national law on data protection in Nigeria which applies to public and private sector processing of personal data within and outside Nigeria.
It is also aimed at protecting the right to privacy, creating the right environment for digital transactions, job creation and improving information management practices in Nigeria.
