Military Sport is a Diplomatic Tool For Peace - Irabor

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor has said that sports is a Diplomatic tool use for peace among Armed Forces of all Countries in the world.

General Irabor gave this assertion when President of International Military Sport Council (CISM), Brigadier General Herve Piriccillo, accompanied by Major Delphine Viard and President Organisation of Military Sports in Africa (OSMA), Maj Gen Maikano Abdullahi paid him a courtesy visit at the Defence Headquarters Abuja on Tuesday.

Irabor who was represented by Major General Adeyemi Yekini, Chief of Defence Training and Operations (CDTOPS), stressed that, Military sporting activities is to promote synergy through military sports interaction as well as cement African Brotherhood.

He noted that, the Armed Forces of Nigeria has included sporting activities into its quarterly events and activities like CISM Day Run, DHQ Abuja Barracks Youth Sport Championship, Armed Forces Security agencies Combat Race,  Tug of War and Golf Competition, among Others.

Earlier in his remark, CISM President, Brigadier General Herve Piriccillo thanked Chief of Defence Staff for his supports, especially during the last CDS Sahel Games in Nigeria which hosted about 14 African countries.

Also in his remark, the OSMA President Major General Maikano Abdullahi said, "Building friendship and better understanding through sports among the countries in the region is not only creative but very innovative.

He thanked the Chief of Defence Staff for his unrelenting support during and after the first CDS Sahel Games in Abuja in 2021.

Accompanying the CISM President during the visit are the OSMA President who also double as CISM Vice president West Africa, Maj Gen Maikano Abdullahi, OSMA Coordinator and Secretary Wing Commander Ado Mohammed, Lt Commander Funmi Fapectus, Group Captain Garuba, Miss Olayemi Esan OSMA Media Parrner Nigeria and Others.
