The Directorate of Army Public Relations, on Friday organized a one - day Social Media Awareness Workshop for officers and soldiers of 82 Division, Nigerian Army to sensitize personnel on emergence of Citizen Journalism and capacity of officers to manage information on Social media.
The workshop which was held at the Division's Headquarters in Enugu, had the Theme “Emergence of Citizen Journalism: Enhancing National Sy and Cohesion Through Responsible Media Reportage by Nigerian Army Personnel”
Director Army Public Relations, Brig General Onyema Nwachukwu said, the aim of the workshop was to galvanise personnel in understanding and projecting the towering image of Nigerian Army and its activities.
Nwachukwu said, social media remains a powerful communications tool. When used correctly, social media can help the Nigerian Army reach an enormous audience. Social media can help the Nigerian engage in conversation while at the same time promoting awareness,”
He pledged that the army Directorate will not be deterred by negative media reports.
"The Nigerian Army and indeed DAPR shall continue to do our best in the promotion of Human Rights and must not allow negative reports circulated in some media platforms
affect our genuine efforts in serving the nation selflessly. he said"
He enjoined participants to see the workshop as an avenue to refresh their knowledge to enhance national sy and Cohesion Through media reportage.
The Army Spokesperson therefore urged the media to support the military in the task of reatoing peace to the country.
