The Force Commander (FC), Multinational Joint Taskforce (MNJTF), Maj.-Gen. Abdul-Khalifah Ibrahim, has urged the strategic partners to explore more ways of
supporting the MNJTF to surmount some difficulties in its efforts to
achieve its mandate.
He also commended the United States and France for their roles in the stabilisation efforts in Africa.
Ibrahim gave the commendation when he hosted a joint delegation from
French Military Intelligence led by Vice Adm. Denis Bertrand and United
States Africa Command (AFRICOM) led by Brig.-Gen. Rose Keravuori in
N’Djamena Chad.
This is contained in a statement by the MNJT’s Chief of Military Public Information, Col. Muhammad Dole.
The
force commander recalled that tracing the immediate and remote causes
of Boko Haram terrorism in the Lake Chad region necessitated the
re-operationalisation of the MNJTF in 2015.
He said the force
served as a regional unifying force to tackle the menace of BHT/ISWAP
insurgents, hence it is a unique military outfit.
In their
separate remarks, the leaders of the joint delegation acknowledged that
terrorism was a global threat with huge negative impact on humanity.
They
also noted the expansion and spread of terrorism in West Africa and
Sahel region, which required collective effort to combat.
