The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Faruk Yahaya has challenged participants at the Services War Colleges Course 5 to offer solutions to national security concerns out of the knowledge acquired during the course.
Yahaya who was represented by Chief of Training, Nigerian Army Headquarters, Maj. Gen. AB Ibrahim gave the charge at the graduation dinner and award night in Abuja on Wednesday.
Yahaya said Course 5 participants should be reminded that professional military education are for a select few that have distinguished themselves among their peers.
"That you are nominated for this course imposes in you the duty to bring in the wealth of knowledge you have acquired from the course to preferring solution to national security concerns wherever you find yourself in future," he noted.
Ibrahim similarly used the occasion to share thought on the journey so far since he assumed office as Chief of Training representing the Chief of Army Staff.
"A lots of progress have been made in the
fight against the insurgency in the North East. This is "especially
evidence with the massive number of terrorists that have been
surrendering in the past few months," the noted.
He added that, "occasions like this are quite unique and its provides the opportunities to share thought with you on journey so far since he assumed office as Chief of training representing the Chief of Army Staff.
"A lots of progress have been made in the fight against the insurgency in the North East. This is "especially evidence with the massive number of terrorists that have been surrendering in the past few months.
The Army Chief said it was gratifying that successes are being recorded with the military leadership embracing joyfulness in all military undertakings towards tackling national security.
Despite these successes, Yahaya said the nation is still being faced with challenges in the North East.
"Notwithstanding, the operation in North East is still covered with the threat of banditry, kidnapping and other security challenges that require us to double our efforts," he added.
The Army chief however noted that regular review of training activities as been done in Army War College of Nigeria and the recent delivery of equipment, as well as collaboration with other security agencies will better equip the troops to deal more decisively with security threats.
He commended the participants for the successful conduct of the maiden Joint Operation planning exercise which he added to have demonstrated full principles of jointness in their respective training.
In his word, the Commandant of the War College of Nigeria, Maj. Gen. Solomon Udounwa said, the College expressed delight in all participants for partaking in four major phases of friendship, sharing of experiences, understanding challenges; reflection and self discovery from over 200 resource persons.
He urged the successful participants to be good ambassador of the College and apply what they have learnt to resolving the nation's security challenges.
The Commandant of the College thanked the guests, sponsors, faculty and Staff, training partners, the US Office of Security Corporation and security advisories for their supports.
