The Federal government has announced activities organised in celebration of the 61st anniversary on Nigeria’s independence.
Minister
of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed made the announcement
on Friday at the press conferences to unveil the Independence Day events
at the National Press Centre, Radio House, Garki in Abuja.
"The
Independence Day for us is a joyous occasion, it is an occasion for
Nigerians to appreciate the efforts of our forebears at gaining
independence from the colonial masters and to appreciate the varied
contributions of successive administrations at building our
nation-state,” Mohammed declared.
The Minister added that the
nation is similarly witnessing the avowed determination of President
Muhammadu Buhari to bequeath a long-lasting legacy of improved
infrastructural facilities and a better economy to the nation.
He
listed the activities as approved by President Buhari to include the
Independence Special Interdenominational Church Service which will hold
at the National Christian Centre, Central Business District on Sunday
26th September 2021 by 2 pm.
A special Award Ceremony/Discover
Nigeria will follow on Thursday 30th September, at the Banquet Hall of
the Presidential Villa by 6 pm.
On Friday, October 1st, the
anniversary parade will hold at Eagle Square by 8:30 am and will be
followed by Special Juma'at Service at the National Mosque the same day
by 2 pm.
