The Kaduna State government on Wednesday said troops of ‘Operation Safe Haven’ have prevented an attack in Magamiya village of Zangon Kataf local government area of the State.
A statement by the State’s Commissioner for Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, explained that gunmen invaded some fields in the village and started shooting sporadically.
He said troops responded to a distress call by residents and mobilised to the village where they engaged the assailants successfully and repelled them.
The statement said one of the attackers, identified as Yusuf Aliyu was arrested by the troops and was in custody for interrogation.
The statement added that a resident, Shedrach Yohanna, who was hit on his left arm by a stray bullet during the attempted attack was receiving treatment and in stable condition.
Aruwan however said that on receiving the report of the gallantry of the troops, Governor Nasir El-Rufai thanked and commended their alertness in averting the attack promptly.
El-Rufai wished the injured resident quick recovery and urged security agencies to ensure a thorough investigation.
