Group Hails General AB Mamman at 80

A non-governmental organisation, the Global Initiative for Leadership Success, GILS, has described retired Maj.Gen. Abdullahi Bagudu Mamman, as a patriot and treasure worthy of preservation for generations to come.

The NGO made this disclosure in a statement signed by its Chief Executive, High Chief Sunnie Chukumele on Wednesday, to mark the 80th birthday anniversary of the elder statesman.

Chukumele noted that with the legacy of selflessness and total commitment to national service, the retired infantry army officer has laid an indomitable legacy for others to emulate.

"We are enviable of your selfless and patriotic sacrifice for your country, and also believe that with peers in your mold, generations of Nigerians have sufficient legacies to imbibe and many to live for," Chukumele noted.

He hailed the Etsu Nyaba for leading a transparent, enviable and accountable lifestyle in public service and as traditional leader.

The organisation commended the retired General for the readiness to give back his vast and resourceful experiences in tackling the challenges of insecurity as the nation is currently confronted.

The GILS leader prayed for God's blessings and wisdom for the monarch to continue ruling his subjects, even as he keeps working for the peace and security of the nation.

"We salute your undying love and devotion for the peace and security of your subjects and fellow citizens. Our prayers is that the almighty Allah endows you more with abundant blessings and wisdom to pilot your subjects and keep contributing to the peace and security of compatriots," GILS prayed.

A one-time Minister of Internal Affairs; Gen AB Mamman who was also Minister of Science and Technology; member of the Armed Forces Ruling Council was born on July 21, 1941 and turns 80 today.

Mamma commanded the 32 field artillery regiment of Nigerian Army in 1970 and Brigade Command School of Artillery between 1975 –1979; he was Chief Military Personnel Officer, United Nation Interim Force Lebanon in 1981; Commander Corps of Signal 1983 and School of Artillery Brigade. 

The Etsu Nyaba was Army Training and Operations Director in 1985 and was member of Armed Forces Ruling Council from 1985 - 1989 later in 1988 he was Commandant, Armed Force Command and Staff College, Jaji till 1990 when he retired and was appointed a Federal Minister.
