The Chief of Army Staff, COAS, Lt .-Gen. Faruk Yahaya has charged Nigerian Army Chief Clerks on responsive and professional performance in discharging their duties as custodians of army documents and records.
Yahaya gave the charge at the Nigerian Army Chief Clerks' Convention 2021 which held at the Headquarters, 81 Division, Lagos saying responsive and professional discharge of duties will greatly enhance their optimal performance as clerks.
Commandant, Nigerian Army College of Logistics, Maj. -Gen Martins Enendu, who presented the COAS’s keynote address at the ceremony, reiterated the importance of the Convention to the Nigerian Army.
The COAS said that if Chief Clerks carried out their duties effectively, there is no doubt that they would contribute immensely towards the actualization of his vision to have a professional Nigerian Army that is ready to accomplish assigned missions in a joint environment in the defence of Nigeria.
He further stated that as trained Clerks, the participants must uphold the tenets of security of documents, which provides the guidelines for professional conduct.
The first Lecture titled: "Capacity Development of Clerical Staff: Challenges and ways forward" was delivered by Colonel Onyekachi Eneowo where he enlightened the participants on the roles of Nigerian Army Clerical Staff.
He pointed out the challenges to capacity development, especially in the face of current security challenges confronting the nation.
In the same vein, Brig. Gen. Chijioke Onwule, in a lecture titled, "Exploring Information Communication Technology for Optimal performance of the Nigerian Army Chief Clerks" drew the attention of the participants to global best practices that are in tune with military conventions.
General Officer Commanding 81 Division Nigerian Army, Maj. Gen. Lawrence Fejokwu, in his address, urged the participants to make optimal use of the opportunity provided by the gathering by learning the rudiments of contemporary clerical work. He also disclosed that knowledge acquired would enable them function in various capacities.
The Nigerian Army 2021 Chief Clerks Convention attracted a senior officers and over 400 Chief Clerks drawn from units, formations, Corps Headquarters and training institutions across the Nigerian Army.
