Borno Police Nabs 10 Suspects for POS, Robbery, Trailing, Stealing Bank Customers, Others

The Borno State Police command has arrested 10 suspects for Point of Service (POS) robbery, syndicates that specialize in trailing and stealing from bank customers, as well Indian hemp dealers in its efforts to curb crime and other criminality in the state.

Briefing, journalists at a press conference at the Police headquarters, Maiduguri, on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), SP Edet Okon said the Command on 29/04/2021 at about 2100hrs, received a report through G.R.A Division that at about 20:45hrs, some hoodlums operating in a black Golf vehicle attacked and robbed a POS operator at Circular road, Polo Area of Maiduguri of the sum of Two Million Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N2, 500,000) and on receipt of the report the police launched a manhunt that led to arrest of 2 suspects, while 1 still at large.

SP Okon said ” On the receipt of the report, the Command launched a manhunt for the criminals and consequently, one Akachukwu Emmanuel was arrested at Lamisula Police Division. His confession led to the arrest of one of his accomplices, a certain Isa Goni at Kano Municipality. Other accomplices who are at large are still being trailed by operatives of the Command.”.

Items recovered, from the suspects, according to the police, including 1 Black Golf Saloon vehicle with registration No. ASU 230 MU2 POS Machines and other accessories.

Also, the police in a separate operation arrested a syndicate that specialize in trailing banks customers and robbed them of their monies.

 “Between 15/5/2021 and 28/5/2021, Operatives of the command, in an intelligence-driven operation, arrested the following persons 1.)Mallam Hamisu 2.)Alh. Umar Samalia alias Dan Babur 3.)Alhaji Habibu Garba alias Senator 4.) Alh. Ali Yahaya and 5.)Mari Paul; all suspects who specialize in trailing unsuspecting citizens – especially those just coming out from banks – break into their cars and steal monies kept therein.”, He stated.

The PPRO said the suspects were trailed and arrested by Crack Operatives in Maiduguri, Jos, Kano, and Jalingo in Taraba States adding that, while interrogating the suspects they confessed to have stolen N23, million from a vehicle parked inside Musa Usman Secretariat and another, N2, 5 million from a vehicle belonging to one Aliyu Ali at a Mosque here in Maiduguri.

Okon further stated that the suspects equally confessed to have carried out some dastardly acts in Kano, Abuja, Sokoto, Zamfara, Jigawa, Jos, Yola, Damaturu, and Jalingo. and that 5 assorted motor vehicles, 6 fabricated duplicate car keys, Corrosive substances used in breaking vehicle glasses/windscreen, as well as ₦14, 5 million.

He also said ” on 23/06/2021 at about 2230hrs, following a tip-off, two suspects namely: Mallam Mati and Abba Ibrahim were arrested at Jajeri ward, Maiduguri while in possession of about One Thousand and five kilograms (1005kg) of dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa with an estimated worth of Three Million Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N3, 500, 000.00)” and .. 1005kg of dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa were recovered

The command spokesman pointed out that all suspects will be charged to court at the conclusion of investigations.
