Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has revealed that the federal
government will pay poor and unemployed Nigerians about N5,000 every month.
The
monthly pay for the poor and unemployed Nigerians had generated a lot of issues
among Nigerians who thought the presidency had been dishonest with the promise
to the Nigerian populace.
But, in a statement issued by Professor Osinbanjo on
Thursday, April 7, the Nigerian government plans to make cash payments to poor
people as a way of easing poverty and to stimulate the economy.
According to Reuters, Osinbajo said: “One
million poor and vulnerable Nigerians would receive 5,000 naira ($25) monthly,”
adding that the plan (which is part of the country’s priorities for
the next 12 months) would cost a total of about $300 million per annum.
According to the statement, the Nigerian government will employ 500,000
graduates as voluntary teachers before they get employment in their chosen
careers, refusing however, to state how these benefits would be funded.
Osinbajo stated instead that there’s a part of the N6.06 trillion record budget
for 2016 which parliament passed last month, waiting for President Buhari’s
signature.
