Hollywood
sure knows how to pull a fast one.
While
us plebes are trying to trick one another into sitting on a whoopee cushion,
your faves are pulling big production pranks involving burning boats and hired
actors. To celebrate April Fool’s Day, we’re looking at all the mischief
celebrities have gotten in the past few years.
Here
are some of our favorite pranks:
1.
Justin Timerlake on Punk’d
Victim: Justin Timberlake
No one did pranks quite like
MTV’s Punk’d. Perhaps the greatest — and most iconic — moment
from the show was when Kutcher tricked Timberlake into thinking he owed
$900,000 in back taxes. When the repo man showed up at the singer’s house to
take away his stuff (including his dog), Timberlake broke down into genuine
tears until someone revealed that it was all a joke caught on candid camera.
Prankster: Aaron Paul
Victim: The world
The perhaps played the meanest
trick of all when he told fans during a Periscope stream that he would be
working on a spinoff series about his Breaking Bad character,
Jesse Pinkman, once the AMC show had ended. Needless to say, fans were crushed
when they eventually learned that it was all a hoax.
3.
Sarah Silverman’s iPhone Camera Trick
Victim: Conan O’Brien
The
comedienne tricked the late night talk show host into showing a “vagina” on the
air with a simple camera hack. Apparently, if you take a photo of someone’s
lips when their head is tilted sideways, the results look a lot like, um, a
certain lady part.
4.
Taylor Swift’s Boat Fire
Victim: Taylor Swift
Bieber made his then-BFF Swift
think that she had accidentally set a boat on fire while playing with fireworks
on an episode of Punk’d. Needless to say,
goody-two-shoes Swift nearly had a mental breakdown after learning that she had
“ruined” someone’s wedding until she spotted the camera crew.
5.
Amy Schumer Photobombs Kimye
Victims: Kim Kardashian, Kanye West
The Inside Amy Schumer star took on America’s most
talked-about couple when she photobombed their red carpet appearance at Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People
gala. “All the reporters were going crazy, and it was Kim and Kanye, just
standing there, just like owning it just like being short and important. And I
just couldn’t help,” she later explained of why she decided to prank the
duo. “I think falling is the funniest thing, so I just took a dive in front of
them and pretended like I fell.”
Victim: Richard Kind
Clooney may have an ongoing prank
war with friend Brad Pitt, but
the actor’s longest con went to the stunt he pulled on actor Kind in 1996.
After tricking his pal that he was taking art classes, Clooney gifted Kind
with an admittedly awful painting, which he found in the garbage and
autographed, for his 40th birthday. For years, Kind hung the art in his house
and told guests that Clooney had painted the piece as a present.
Clooney broke the news to Kind about the prank five years later on a late
night talk show.
7. Arnold
Schwarzenegger Pranks Gym Goers
Prankster: Arnold Schwarzenegger
Victims: Gold’s Gym members
The
former Mr. Universe pretended to be a trainer to scold patrons at a Los Angeles
gym who were maybe not putting 100 percent into their workouts. Some fell for
it; others didn’t. Everybody got a laugh out of it.
8.
Jennifer Lawrence Turns the Tables
Prankster: Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson
Victim: Smosh
The Hunger Games trio
turned the tables on the people behind Smosh, who normally prank celebrities by
purposefully messing up their interviews. With the help from a fan
named Dylan Miceli-Nelson, Hemsworth and Hutcherson instructed Lawrence to
sabotage her own sit-down with the YouTube pranksters. Dueling pranks? Done.
9.
All the Times Ellen DeGeneres Scared Someone
Prankster: Ellen DeGerenes
Victims: Her guests
The daytime talk show host has
managed to make a hobby out pranking her celebrity guests. FromSelena Gomez to Miley Cyrus, no one has been safe
from a good fright. In fact, DeGeneres is e so successful at scaring
Hollywood’s elite that she’s managed to pull stunt more than 121 times. Good
game.
10.
Adele Auditions to Become Adele
Prankster: Adele
Victims: Adele impersonators
Adele
perhaps launched the greatest comeback when she surprised Adele impersonators
at an audition. Armed with prosthetics, the singer, going by “Jenny,” managed
to infiltrate the crowd by pretending that she was up for a part before
revealing herself when she — natch — started to sing. Jaws dropped, and fans
nearly lost it right there and then.
