A BRISBANE dad charged with killing his neighbour during a dispute over loud music has lost his job in the wake of the incident.
Phillip Pama, 28, fronted the Brisbane Magistrates Court today with lawyer Bruce Peters to seek a variation of his bail conditions to allow him to find new work.
Pama was charged with the manslaughter of 55-year-old Leon Yeaman, who lived next door to him on Muller Rd at Taigum, north of Brisbane, on April 9.
It was alleged the men came to blows after loud music and swearing was heard coming from Mr Yeaman’s property around 9pm.
Pama was granted bail subject to conditions, including abiding by a 6am to 2am curfew that would allow him to continue his warehouse work.
But Mr Peters said Pama had lost his job due to media coverage of the incident.
He asked the curfew be lifted so Pama could find another job to support his family.
“It was a tragic accident, a one-off with a neighbour who had lived next door for 19 years,” Me Peters said.
Mr Peters told the court he had been instructed that it would take between nine and 12 months before a pathology report could be prepared that outlined how Mr Yeaman died.
“It may say there is another cause of injury,” he said.
He argued the report should be made available earlier.
Deputy Chief Magistrate Terry Gardiner varied Pama’s bail by ordering he remain at home between 10pm and 6am.
He further ordered a lawyer from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions explain why the pathology report would be delayed so significantly at a hearing on June 1.
