The Labour Party governorship candidate, Opeyemi Bamidele, has denied allegations that his campaign is being funded by the Ondo State government and that he is not stepping down.
The LP candidate dismissed the insinuation that the Ondo State government gave his campaign team a loan of N3bn for electioneering purposes.
Bamidele described such news as false and malicious, stressing that nothing was farther from the truth than it.
He added that it was a serious act of irresponsibility that anyone could think that a state government with enormous responsibilities would dole out such a whopping sum to an individual to run a campaign and that, he is not stepping down for any party.
He said, “The Labour Party and its governorship candidate, Opeyemi Bamidele, are aware of a series of damaging and malicious text messages going about town that we have gone to take a loan of N3bn from the Ondo State government. This propaganda effort is fruitless in all ramifications as it is seen as a figment of the rumour mongers’ warped political imagination.
“It is a serious act of irresponsibility that anyone could think that a state government with enormous responsibilities could dole out such a whopping sum to an individual to run a campaign. We don’t intend to join issues with these enemies of the people but we are only putting the record straight.
“For the umpteenth time, we repeat that MOB has no godfather like these forces accusing us wickedly of the same crime they are guilty of. As a political party, we have operated within the confines of stipulated financial regulations by setting up a campaign organisation with a fundraising team. We are not willing to mortgage the future of Ekiti for any form of politics.
“We advise that instead of engaging in these frivolities, those who are spreading the false news should spend the remaining days of this campaign era to redress issues of poverty ravaging Ekiti people under its care.”
