Believe it or not, Palacio De sal is the first hotel in the world built with salt blocks.
It is conveniently located at the edge of Salar de Uyuni, the world’s largest salt flat in La Paz south in Bolivia.
Everything from the walls and floors to the beds and tables have been carved out of salt taken from the Salar de Uyuni salt flat. Even the quirky retreat’s swimming pool, tables and chairs in the dining room and nine-hole golf course are made from sodium chloride.
This unique idea was crafted by Don Juan Quesada. The hotel was first built in the mid 90s but had to be dismantled in 2002 before being rebuilt.
