Breaking: Three players killed in Malawi car accident


Malawi football has plunged into a state of mourning after three players for Presidential Cup champions, Mafco, were killed in a car accident on Friday morning in the Central Region District of Nkhotakota.
While in transit from a Carlsberg Cup quarter-final match they lost 1-3 on post-match penalties to fellow soldiers Moyale Barracks at Chitowe Stadium on Wednesday, Sadani Magwere, Gift Mphonde and Chifundo Phiri died on the spot after the army truck they were travelling in was involved in an accident.
Police confirmed that three other players Sailesi Phiri, Jimmy Mzunga, Gift Soko are in hospital.
Mafco chairperson Chitumbo Charamba indicated through a statement made available to the press that the remains of Phiri will be buried in Kasungu District and the others in old capital, Zomba on Saturday.
