The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a vandalism gang and recovered several cut-to-size armoured cables following a midnight operation in Guzape, Abuja.
The suspects, identified as Sagir Abubakar of Kuchigoro Village, FCT, and Seidu Umar Bello, were arrested following a police patrol operation along Walter Ofonagoro Street, Guzape, at about 1:30 a.m. on October 31, 2026.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement, saying operatives attached to Guzape Division spotted a Lexus SUV and a Toyota Sienna parked under suspicious circumstances during routine surveillance patrol.
According to her, the officers approached the vehicles to ascertain the occupants’ reasons for being at the location at that hour.
However, upon sighting the police operatives, the occupants allegedly sped off, abandoning one of their accomplices, who attempted to escape on foot.
The officers gave chase and apprehended the suspect.
Preliminary investigations reportedly revealed that Abubakar was a member of a gang allegedly involved in vandalising public and private infrastructure at secluded locations within the FCT.
A search of the surrounding premises where the suspects had been sighted led to the recovery of several cut-to-size armoured cables.
Adeh said further investigations led to the arrest of Bello, who had initially escaped from the scene in one of the vehicles.
The Police Command said investigations were ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspects’ activities, identify other members of the alleged gang and apprehend those still at large.
The arrested suspects remain in police custody and are expected to be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Command urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons and activities to the nearest police station.
It also provided the following emergency contact numbers for public assistance: 08032003913 and 08061581938.
